Team Alimkhanuly Responds to Jaime Munguia Forgoing Title Shot
Well, it looks like WBO mandatory junior middleweight challenger Jamie Munguia will not pursue a fight with WBO champion Janibek “Qazaq Style” Alimkhanuly. Team Alimkhanuly, with disappointment, took to social media blasting Team Munguia for ducking.
3Kings Boxing has the WBO’s confirmation that Golden Boy Promotions has decided to forgo the title opportunity. On November 20, the WBO ordered the mandatory bout and gave both teams a deadline of 15 days to work out a deal.
NO ONE SHOULD BE SURPRISED BY TEAM MUNGUIA’S DECISION
Fans should not be surprised by this move. Munguia, following his destruction of Gonzalo Coria on November 19, called out two distant names – WBC champion Jermall Charlo and unified champion Gennady Golovkin.
Team Munguia, when asked if they had talked with the WBO champion’s team, revealed they had not. Their main focus includes bouts with Golovkin, Charlo, and WBA light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol.
“No! Our main interest is a big fight. Jaime and me have discussed it. The big fight is Golovkin, Bivol, and Charlo.”
TEAM ALIMKHANUY RESPONDS
In his last outing, Qazaq Style did not look so good in his victory over fringe contender Denzel Bentley. In addition, the boxing community, which dubbed him a boogeyman, called that status into question.
The WBO champion, feeling vindicated by the news, took to social media to declare himself the divisional king. Moreover, he called out the other champions, asking them to show their faces.
Alimkhanuly’s manager, Egis Klimas, requested the WBO to remove Munguia from the rankings for ducking. The WBO champion followed it with an open challenge.
