David Benavidez v Jose Uzcategui postponed due to positive COVID-19 test
Former two-time WBC super middleweight champion David “Red Flag” Benavidez (24-0, 21KOs) has tested positive for COVID-19. As a result, his fight with former IBF super middleweight champion Jose “Bolivita” Uzcategui (31-4, 26KOs) is being postponed.
Benavidez ranks number one in the WBC and number two in the WBA. He was looking to add the number five ranked IBF super middleweight contender, Uzcategui, to his resume. This battle between hard-hitting former world champions was on schedule for August 28 to air live on Showtime in the Footprint Center in Phoenix, Arizona, the hometown of Benavidez. It was also going to be a WBC final eliminator. However, with the news of this positive COVID-19 test for Red Flag, the two men will have to wait a little longer before they can lock horns.
