Chantelle Cameron Stays the Hunt for a Rematch with Jessica McCaskill
Undisputed junior welterweight champion Chantelle “Il Capo” Cameron (17-0, 8KO) is staying the course on wanting a rematch against Jessica “CasKilla” McCaskill for her undisputed welterweight status.
During an interview with Women’s Boxing News, McCaskill’s manager/trainer Rick Ramos mentioned a possible rematch with Cameron.
“A rematch with Chantelle Cameron is a good fight . . . I would like to get Jessica a win before a Chantelle rematch. But, if the rematch is there and the money is right, and the situation calls for it, then you know we can do the rematch right away.”
Cameron reminded Ramos of the energy they had when looking to fight her for undisputed.
CAMERON CONTINUES TO CALL FOR THE REMATCH
Il Capo has been pounding this pavement since before fighting CasKilla for undisputed at junior welterweight. When it was uncertain if she would fight the former unified champion, Kali Reis, Cameron called for McCaskill’s belts when the undisputed champion showed interest in coming down.
On November 5, Cameron quickly called for a rematch for McCaskill’s welterweight titles following her victory. Time is running out on negotiating for the rematch. The WBO recently ordered team Cameron to start negotiating to defend the undisputed status against two-time WBO champion Christina “Medusa” Linardatou.
Both teams have 30 days from November 13 to reach an agreement, or it will go to a purse bid. Cameron is anxious to become a two-divisional undisputed champion to add to her legacy.
Things are moving fast as 2023 approaches. It will be interesting to see how this plays out.
