Daniel Dubois To Test his Might in a High Stakes Duel vs Hrgovic
In his next bout, it appears that heavyweight Daniel “Dynamite” Dubois (20-2, 19 KO’s) will corner a foe he’s been trying to walk down. For this upcoming duel, the Queensberry Promotions backed bruiser will face the heavy-handed Croatian Filip “El Animal” Hrgovic (17-0, 14 KO’s). The two will collide this June 1 at the Kingdom Arena located in Saudi Arabia.
Some credit should be extended to Dubois for seeking out another tough foe. Ranked #4 (IBF), #4 (WBA), #6 (WBC) and #7 (WBO), Dynamite is only one bout removed from his second professional defeat to unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk. In that redemptive first battle back, on December 23, 2023, Dubois snagged a tenth rough TKO over Jarrell Miller.
GO HARD OR BLOWHARD?!
Regardless of his chasing this scrap, this is potentially tricky territory for Dubois. Obviously, if he wins then all the glory and advancements that come with it will shower down on him. If he loses however, the UK boxer runs the high likelihood of being labeled a gatekeeper level fighter and largely dismissed on the elite level. This perception is directly related to his two losses to Usyk and Joe Joyce.
On each occasion, Dynamite found himself stepping up in competition when he tasted the sour muck of defeat. Yet, even more detrimental than losing was the method. Following both of those events, large pockets of boxing fans walked away feeling like Dubois quit rather than soldiering on. This is why it’s utterly imperative that he not stumble again in his third consecutive big stage prizefight.
Now that the fight is signed, only time will tell if Dubois will once again rebuild his career in a poised and dedicated fashion following adversity. Or, will Dynamite get soaked up and drowned in a tidal wave of Hrgovic’s aggression and power? Time will tell, but the reveal should be a great time for all viewers involved!
