Oscar De La Hoya Is Still Dangling A Zepeda Fight At Stevenson
Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya is looking to lure WBC lightweight champion Shakur “Fearless” Stevenson (21-0, 10KO) out of retirement with a fight against top contender William “Camaron” Zepeda (29-0, 25KO).
It isn’t the first time De La Hoya has mentioned wanting to make Fearless versus Camaron a reality. Earlier in the year, he expressed a desire in wanting to make fight sometime in 2024.
It seems the fight is still a top priority for the Golden Boy executive. While speaking with the media, he pleaded with Stevenson to come out of retirement for the fight.
“Williams would love to fight him. I would love to make William Zepeda versus Shakur Stevenson. I literally would. So, Shakur, please come back out of retirement. Let’s make that fight happen.”

UNRETIRE AND MAKE THE FIGHT
Fearless was upset over not getting the fights he wanted and dealing with the politics of the sport promptly retired on social media. This came after the WBO ordered its junior lightweight champion Emanuel Navarrete to fight for the vacant title against Deny Berinchyk.
Those inside the boxing community don’t believe Fearless stays retired. In addition, he will be a free agent and could be using this as a negotiation ploy to land a big contract. Providing De La Hoya’s offer is genuine, the WBC champion could be persuaded to end his so called retirement.
Zepeda holds the number three slot by the WBC and is one of the divisions top fighter. In his last outing, the Mexican scored a statement-making knockout over Mercito Gesta in September 2023.
A victory over Camaron would be huge notch on the belt for Stevenson. The boxing world awaits to see what will happen in upcoming weeks.
