Devin Haney Looking for Shakur Stevenson to Prove He Wants The Fight
On May 20, undisputed lightweight champion Devin “The Dream” Haney (29-0, 15 KO’s) will glove up to face Vasiliy Lomachenko. It’s a fight that Haney has chased for years and now will be staged at the MGM Grand located in Las Vegas. Yet, being the man with all the titles, there is no shortage of folks wanting a shot at the 135-pound king. Such is the case for two-division champion “Fearless” Shakur Stevenson (20-0, 10 KO’s).
After recently demolishing Shuichiro Yoshino, Stevenson was lightning-quick to call out Haney. Upon hearing the call to battle, The Dream was impressed and felt that Stevenson was doing exactly what he should be doing to secure the meaningful fight. With that being said however, Haney would like to see Fearless, ranked #2 (WBO), #3 (WBC), #4 (IBF) and #5 (WBA), put more weight behind his words.
“If he wasn’t calling my name, I would say he was a duck! So the right thing to do is to call my name, but like I said before, put some substance behind it. Shakur knows the right people to call to make the fight happen.”
PUT UP OR SHUT UP
Obviously, The Dream has to emerge from his impending duel with Loma victorious before any other significant fights can be penned. Yet, assuming that this is the case, Haney versus Stevenson is just about as solid a match that can be made in the division. Some would argue in the entire sport! So, for the time being, we all will just have to wait and see what transpires in the MGM Grand on May 20.
In the meantime, however, let’s hope that Team Stevenson takes these words to heart and initiates the behind-the-scenes paperwork to make this fight a reality. No matter how the chips may fall though, 3Kings Boxing will be here to report all the news and developments!
