Eddie Hearn Supportive of Joe Cordina Unifying with O’Shaquie Foster

The junior lightweight division could be on the verge of getting a major unification match-up featuring WBC champion O’Shaquie “Ice Water” Foster (20-2, 11KO) and IBF champion Joe “The Wizard” Cordina (16-0, 9KO).

British promoter Eddie Hearn sounded giddy as a schoolboy that got his first kiss from a girl when speaking on the Matchroom Boxing YouTube channel about making the Foster-Cordina unification a reality.

“We’re talking to Shaquille Foster’s team . . . listen, we talk about great fights; Joe Cordina against Shaquille Foster unification, an unbelievable fight. And if Joe wants to go straight into, that I’m up for it.”

“We’ll see if Shaquille Foster doesn’t outprice himself. He’ll get what we believe that fight is worth. But that’s a tough fight for both, an incredible fight for boxing. If those guys want to unify straight off the bat, I’m more than happy to make it happen.”

THE ROAD TRAVELED BY TWO CHAMPIONS

Ice Water put on the performance of his career in dominating two-division champion Rey Vargas on February 11. In the post-fight press conference, the newly crowned champion quickly called out the other champions in the division, including Cordina.

On April 22, after losing his title due to an injury, The Wizard became a two-time champion by regaining the title in a split decision victory over Shavkat Rakhimov. A few days later, he revealed that unification with Foster is the preferred choice for his next fight.
