Edgar Berlanga Affirms He Is Not Looking Past Jason Quigley
Unbeaten super middleweight contender Edgar “The Chosen One” Berlanga (20-0, 16 KOs) returns to the ring on June 24 against former world title challenger Jason Quigley (20-2, 14 KOs). After starting off his career with sixteen consecutive highlight-reel knockout victories, his light has started to dim. As his competition has gotten better, more of his flaws have come to the forefront. Having been thought to be one of the future stars at super middleweight, he needs an impressive showing in his upcoming fight.
The Brooklyn native has big aspirations for his future in boxing. With his new promoter, Eddie Hearn, now guiding his career, the Puerto Rican hopeful is ready for the big time. But first things first, he has to get past a tough and experienced Quigley. Social media chatter about him possibly facing undisputed 168-pound champion Canelo Alvarez in the not-too-distant future has circulated. Yet Berlanga says he is only focused on his upcoming opponent.
He told iFL TV the following on on whether he was overlooking Quigley:
“Nah, not at all. He probably thinks that because of all the rumors that have been going around on Twitter and in the media. But right now, man, I’m locked in on him. He’s my Canelo right now; he’s my Charlo; he’s these guys for me right now.”
With all eyes on him come June 24, it’s imperative that The Chosen One puts on a performance that will skyrocket his value, especially if he wants to secure marquee fights moving forward. He’s ranked #11 in both the IBF and WBC rankings.
