Edwin De Los Santos Warns Stevenson to Expect the Unexpected

Had everything gone according to the previous plan, two-division champion “Fearless” Shakur Stevenson (20-0, 10 KO’s) would have locked horns with Frank Martin next. Yet, when the two could not come to an agreement over the monies involved, the match imploded. It was at that point that the Dominican southpaw fighter Edwin “La Granda” De Los Santos (16-1, 14 KO’s) got the call of duty.

Even though many had whet their appetite to see Stevenson tangle with Martin, there is no shortage of fans who believe that Santos, ranked #6 (WBC), #7 (IBF) and #12 (WBO), is a better fight. And to raise the stakes a bit higher, the two will be battling to determine the fate of the vacant WBC 135-pound title.

IT’S NOT WHAT YOU THINK!

There is no question that the Dominican believes in his skills and is looking to shake up the division by toppling Stevenson.

“Thanks for the opportunity. [On] November 16 [I’m going to], surprise Shakur Stevenson! In the ring, it’s my house, mothafucker!”

Provided that Santos walks away triumphant, this will easily be the biggest win of his professional career. To begin, this will mark the first time that he will be competing for a world title. Naturally, a win over such a quality opponent, on the visible stage, would radically alter La Granda’s day-to-day life and his standing in the boxing world.

GOT TO SHOW AND PROVE!

At the moment, Santos is riding a three-fight win streak since suffering his only professional blemish, a split-decision loss, at the hands of William Foster III back on January 7, 2022. Perhaps even more in his favor is the fact that La Granda is a well established lightweight fighter who’s been competing in the division for years.

Conversely, Fearless is new to the territory, with this upcoming match standing as only his second fight in the weight class. Ideally for Team Santos and their fans, the Dominican will be able to marshal the size difference into a meaningful tactical advantage once in the squared-circle. In the end though, we will simply have to wait and watch how everything unfolds on fight night.
