Knockout CP Freshmart vs Erick Rosa WBA Consolidation Bout Headed Stateside
3kingsboxing.com has learned that the ordered contest to consolidate the WBA minimumweight title between WBA Super champion Knockout “CP” Freshmart (24-0, 9 KOs) and WBA Regular champion Erick Rosa (5-0, 4 KOs) will finally happen. According to the news source WM Boxing, the fight will happen on May 13 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Word on the street is the match is to occur on the undercard matchup between WBA junior welterweight champion Albert Puello and Rolando “Rolly” Romero.
THE STRUGGLE TO MAKE THIS FIGHT A REALITY
Attempts to make this fight have been filled with issues. There was an agreement in principle for them to fight on a PBC card in the Fall of 2022. But it was canceled due to Freshmart’s inability to obtain a proper visa.
The fight was rescheduled for March 1, 2023, in Thailand, the home country of CP Freshmart. When Rosa arrived in Thailand for the scheduled match, he was detained by Thai authorities over a passport issue. As a result, the bout was scratched.
EXPERIENCE VS YOUTH
CP Freshmart is the longest current reigning champion at 105. He is a versatile fighter who can beat opponents by picking them apart from the outside or fighting on the inside. The 32-year-old is coming off a unanimous decision win over countryman and former long-reigning WBC 105-pound champion Wanheng Menayothin in July 2022.
Rosa is one of the better young fighters in the sport. He’s been the subject of plenty of hype in his country, the Dominican Republic. The 23-year-old is a slick southpaw with fast hands, quick feet, and good defense. But Rosa has been very inactive. The last time he was in the ring was December 2021 when he captured the WBA Regular title with a split decision victory over Vic Saludar. On paper, this is one of the best fights at 105 pounds.
