Tyson Fury Proposes a Fight with Mahmoud Charr Next!
In another wild turn of events, WBC heavyweight champion “The Gypsy King” Tyson Fury (32-0-1, 23KOs) has announced that a fight between him and two-time unified heavyweight champion Anthony “AJ” Joshua (24-3, 22KOs) is off. This comes after the self-imposed deadline issued by Fury to Joshua came and went.
After offering Joshua a 60-40 split, which the former champion accepted, Fury stated that a deal needed to be reached by today, September 26. However, as of the writing of this article, a deal has yet to be finalized. Furthermore, co-promoter Frank Warren has stated that he and Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, were attempting to close the deal.
FURIOUS TO MOVE ON?
Fury has come out on social media and announced that the fight is not happening. He proclaims he instead will face former world title challenger Mahmoud Charr (33-4, 19KOs). While this potential fight may be surprising, it shouldn’t be. These two have been going back and forth on social media recently. However, if we’re being honest, Charr has done absolutely nothing to deserve this fight.
The 37-year-old former world title challenger has been inactive for four years. However, he recently returned to the scene in 2021, stopping Christopher Lovejoy in two rounds. More recently, he picked up another stoppage win over Nikola Milai in three rounds.
One shouldn’t jump to conclusions, as Fury is always making some type of announcement. Let’s hope he and Joshua can reach an agreement to finally fight.
We here at 3Kings Boxing will continue to monitor the story and provide updates as they become available.
