Remember a while back when the question was brought up about is social media a good thing or bad thing for boxing? Well I think we can answer that with an emphatic YES!

During the current lock-down crisis, social media has been the only place that fans can interact with the sport’s top participants. Furthermore, the open Q&A session has proven to be a workable platform that keeps fans engaged.

Golden Boy Promotions knows full well about the difficulties of dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic. Having to cancel a lot of fights without a possible return-to-work date has been frustrating the entire sport.

THE TEASE OR POSSIBLE REALITY

WBA “Gold” titlist Vergil Ortiz Jr (15-0, 15ko) was the first Golden Boy fighter to become a casualty of the COVID-19 crisis. The undefeated Ortiz, is currently ranked #7 by the WBC and has expressed wanting a title opportunity.

Golden Boy posted a tweet on Twitter asking a question that raises the eyebrows and makes the mind ponder.

Furthermore, when given some thought, it’s not a bad fight at all and could very well be a possibility in 2020. This could be a good tune-up fight for the Truth returning from the fatal car accident. There is even a good promotional element that can be exploited: both fighters being from Texas. We already saw how the masses came out during the Mikey Garcia bout.

Ortiz Jr. hasn’t fought anyone on the level of the unified Texas champion. However, he would provide a good measuring barometer to see if the Truth is indeed truly back.

Before looking forward to fights with WBC mandatory challenger Danny “Swift” Garcia (36-2, 21ko), WBA champion Manny “Pac Man” Pacquiao (62-7-2, 39ko) and of course the fight everyone wants WBO champion Terence “Bud” Crawford (36-0, 27ko), Spence has to return first, prove to everyone that nothing has changed, and the hunger is still there. A fight with the WBA “Gold” titlist could be just what could do the trick.
