Eddie Hearn Won’t Rule Out a Possible Conor Benn vs. Amir Khan Fight!
After being pummeled by rival Kell Brook (40-3, 28KOs) back in February, former unified 140-pound champion Amir Khan (34-6, 21KOs) remains noncommittal on whether to retire or continue his career. However, that hasn’t stopped rising 147-pound contender Conor Benn (21-0, 14KOs) from calling him out!
Benn’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, was asked whether or not he was considering a Khan fight for Benn.
“Not in the summer because you know Amir, Amir talks about fighting again, talks about actually coming back with a comeback fight, and then being in a big fight. I mean, he was injured going into the Kell Brook fight, but was it an injury or was it just that it was the end of his career? So we’ll have to see, but it’s still a big name. But, we may miss the boat on that fight. “
NO PROMISES
Khan, who’s 35, is clearly past his prime. He’s also 3-3 in his last six fights. All three losses came by way of knockout. While he’s still a big name on the UK boxing scene, if what we witnessed in his fight with Brook is all he has to offer, his best bet is to hang up the gloves. Boxing is “the hurt business”, something he knows very well. Unless there’s an outrageous amount of money being offered to him to fight Benn, Khan should respectfully decline.
Interesting enough, after Benn made easy work of Chris Van Heerden in two rounds, he invited Khan into the ring. In the aftermath of Benn being interviewed, the reporter would turn to Khan and ask whether or not he was interested in a potential matchup. As mentioned earlier in the article, Khan was noncommittal and kept trying to deflect, but also said it depends on if the hunger comes back or not.
3Kings Boxing will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they become available.
