Alimkhanuly Disappointed In Sheeraz Pulling Out Of Purse Bid
Unified middleweight champion Janibek “Qazaq Style” Alimkhanuly’s (16-0, 11KO) boogieman status continues to grow after top contender Hamzah Sheeraz (21-0, 17KO) pulls out of purse bid.
The WBO sent social media buzzing after reporting that Sheeraz will forgo fighting for the title. This resulted in the organization canceling the purse bid that was to take place on November 18. It’s believed that he will look to challenge the WBC champion Carlos Adames instead.
Sheeraz is coming off an incredible 2024. He scored three knockouts in a row over prospect Austin Williams, former world champion Liam Smith, and an impressive second-round stoppage against Tyler Denny.
IS THIS A DUCK?
Boxing fans wasted no time in labeling Sheeraz with the duck tag. Like it or not it’s tough to argue when considering two belts are on the line. As for Qazaq Style, the struggle to get a quality known opponent continues to elude him.
Realizing what had happened, the Kazakhstani took to social media with a message for the fans. (Tweet here)
Since his unimpressive victory over Denzel Bentley in 2022, Alimkhanuly has been on a tear. He stopped challenger Steven Butler in two quick rounds. In a fight that had all eyes watching, he scored a statement knockout over Vincenzo Gualtieri to become the unified champion in 2023.
Alimkhanuly made it clear that collecting all the belts is a top priority. He continues to wait on the other champions to show interested by reaching out to make the call for a fight. With Sheeraz out of the picture, a fight with Shane Mosley Jr or a rematch with Bentley could be next.
