Jorge Linares speaks on Ryan Garcia v Luke Campbell
For quite some time, former 3-division champion Jorge “El Nino de Oro Golden Boy” Linares (47-5, 29 KO’s) has taken shots at lightweight contender Ryan “KingRy” Garcia (20-0, 17 KO’s). In the past, the seasoned Venezuelan indicated that he would face Garcia but required an incentive such as a world title. Clearly, he has become more flexible with his requirements.
During a recent interview conducted with Fight Hub TV, Linares revealed that he is very open to fight with KingRy. Yet, even while he would sign up to trade leather with the brash Californian, Linares is convinced that Garcia is not ready for his level of competition. In fact, he would not even be surprised is Ryan Garcia running a bit scared.
“If Golden Boy called me right now and said, ‘you know what, let’s change the opponent, lets’ do the fight with Ryan Garcia,’ Yes! Let’s do it! Why not?!”
“…he’s not ready, come on, he’s not ready for that! Especially when he saw my fight, the last fight. Why? Because he is young guy, he is fast, but all the boxers that he is fighting is, come on, its not reality boxing, come on! So he is not ready to make a big fight with somebody like me.”
GREAT TEST
Since they will not be colliding together in their next assignment, Linares is happy to hear that Garcia will be fighting Luke Campbell (20-3, 16 KO’s). Campbell is himself a two-time world title challenger and gave WBO and WBA super world lightweight champion Vasiliy “Hi-Tech” Lomachenko (14-1, 10 KO’s) all kinds of trouble in their August 31, 2019 bout.
Without question, win, lose or draw, Garcia’s upcoming prizefight with Luke Campbell will address any lingering doubts about whether or not KingRy belongs at the top of the food chain.
“I am so happy that the fight with him and Luke Campbell happen. That’s [a] very good fight for him. You can see how good a boxer he is here. Luke Campbell last fight was Lomachenko, he was confusing to Lomachenko a lot of the time. He is very tough guy, he is tall, long, he is very difficult. I think it’s a very good fight for Ryan Garcia.”
Yet, even after saying Garcia wasn’t on his level the Venezuelan does believe he will best Campbell.
[on if he thinks Garcia beats Campbell] “I think yes, but not easy! He need to be very ready for that fight, it’s not like a one round, two round!”
