Teofimo Lopez Still Doesn’t Believe Devin Haney Is Worth Talking About

Former unified lightweight champion “The Takeover” Teofimo Lopez (16-1, 12KO) will be making a return to boxing after a long layoff in the junior welterweight division against Pedro Campa (34-1-1, 23KO). Lopez remains vigilant that his rivals haven’t earned anything and believes the media is on the take.

The Takeover always had a dismissive attitude towards the top lightweights when he ruled the roost in the division. He has stated in the past that undisputed champion Devin Haney, Ryan Garcia, and WBA ‘regular’ champion Gervonta Davis were not making the same moves as him, and they were fighting a bunch of nobodies.

In 2020, Lopez took the crown away from former unified champion Vasyl “Hi-Tech” Lomachenko. But, his place on top was short-lived after losing in the first defense of his unified status to George Kambosos Jr the following year in a shocking upset.

Lopez would later reveal that he almost died in the ring after being diagnosed with mediastinal emphysema before the fight. Now, fully recovered and moved up to junior welterweight, he is ready to start a new chapter in his career.

LOPEZ STILL DISMISSIVE OF HIS RIVALS

In an interview with Fight Hub TV, Lopez’s dismissive attitude towards rivals Garcia and Haney has not changed.

“I don’t want to talk about these guys man. Why am I going to give them something they haven’t even earned? They haven’t earned it bro. That’s all played out man. These guys are man-made.”

Lopez went deep by claiming the media is on the payroll in making his rivals relevant.

“I feel like all y’all know that because y’all [the media] on the payroll. The majority of y’all under their payroll, so y’all got to talk about these boys […] I didn’t pay myself to make it here. I worked my ass to make it here, and that’s what going to last longer than them.

“They all want to be Teofimo deep down inside.”

Haney responds on social media showing deep concern for Lopez’ mental state after viewing a clip from the interview.
