Dennis McCann Eager to Become a World Champion!

At the Copper Box Arena in London, England, rising British prospect Dennis “The Menace” McCann (13-0, 7 KOs) scored an eighth-round TKO over Jimmy Beech Jr (14-3, 2 KOs) to win the vacant WBC Silver International featherweight title.

McCann got off to a blazing start, putting Beech on the canvas in the opening round. But as the fight carried on, McCann backed off, playing around a bit too much. There were moments when he allowed himself to get hit with some unnecessary shots. However, he eventually got back into gear, putting Beech down for a second time in round eight before finishing matters.

British pundits and fans have raved about McCann since his amateur days. He’s also been featured in the 3Kings Boxing Prospect Watch. The 21-year-old southpaw has talent that is evident when watching him in action.

YOUNG AND HUNGRY

But it will be interesting to see where he goes following this win. McCann’s early fights were at bantamweight. However, at 5’7”, he is a young man whose frame is beginning to fill out. His previous fight in March 2022 was at junior featherweight, and the contest with Beech was at featherweight. But for the confident young lad, he’s ready to show and prove.

During a post-interview with UK source iFL TV, McCann said he is willing to fight anyone at any weight.

“I can punch, I can box, I can move, I’ve got all the credentials. But as I said, I’m 21 years of age, and I’ve got age on my side. I’ll get every single one of these belts, and I’ll be a world champion, 100 percent.

[…] I know how far I can go. I’m going to be a world champion at a few different weights and a few belts as well. I know where I’m gonna go. I’m 21, I wanna go now. If they tell me right now you’re getting such a much to fight (John Riel) Casimero, to fight (Zolani) Tete or somebody like that right there, if they told me to fight (Naoya) Inoue, I’d say yeah!”

Fighting the likes of three-division world champion John Riel Casimero and two-division world champ Zolani Tete would represent a giant step up in class. Sensible observers would acknowledge that a fight against Inoue is foolhardy right now. Besides, his growing body suggests his future is at 122 or even 126. However, McCann has the look of a fighter with serious potential. The ability is there, and he’s sending a warning sign that he’s here to make his mark.
