Caleb Plant v David Benavidez Confirmed for 2023!
Boxing is giving fans something to look forward to in 2023. Former IBF super middleweight champion Caleb “Sweethands” Plant (21-1, 13KO) and WBC Interim champion David “Red Flag” Benavidez (26-0, 23KO) look set to fight March 25, 2023 in Las Vegas.
TWO RIVAL FORMER CHAMPIONS READY TO FIGHT
There is a long history between these two former champions that dates back to when they both were holding belts in the division in 2019. They have had their share of harsh words thrown at each other on social media and will finally settle it in the ring. Plant has teased Benavidez for losing his title in the past.
This fight announcement tracks with Plant’s words earlier this year about facing either Benavidez or WBC middleweight champion Jermall Charlo after a rebound fight. Sweet hands suffered his first career defeat to undisputed champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez in 2021. He has bounced back nicely with a devastating knockout victory over two-time champion Anthony Dirrell on October 15.
THE LONG WAIT IS OVER FOR BENAVIDEZ
Red Flag has been itching to fight his PBC stablemate. On several occasions, he has made it clear this is the fight he wants. In March, his father/trainer Jose Benavidez Sr revealed that Plant turned down a fight for September. In his last outing, Benavidez picked up the interim title after running over David Lemieux.
After witnessing Plant fight Dirrell in a title eliminator, the WBC Interim champion was concerned the organization was going to screw him out of a title shot. He is no longer worried about that and took to social media with a message for his rival.
