Liam Smith in Talks for December Bout with Chris Eubank Jr

Instead of recently going to war with Conor Benn as he was scheduled to, middleweight fighter Chris Eubank Jr (32-2, 23 KO’s) was left stranded without an opponent. This is due to the fight being scrapped once it was discovered that Benn had failed a drug test. Luckily for Eubank Jr, he may be able to pen a late-year duel with one-time super welterweight champion Liam “Beefy” Smith (32-3-1, 19 KO’s).

While sitting down with Sky Sports, Liam Smith opened the door to face Eubank before the end of 2022.

“I fought September. I’ll be looking to fight December and I’m more than ready for Chris Eubank in December.”

If everything moves along seamlessly ,then the two pugilists will likely go head-to-head this December 17. Yet, that of course is in an ideal world. Provided that there are any hiccups that arise in negotiations, this fight could very easily be pushed back to early next year.

December 17 would be a fairly quick turnaround for Smith. He was just in the ring on September 9 taking on Hasson Mwakinyo. Presently, Beefy, 34, is in a good space, riding a three-fight win streak since last losing to Magomed Kurbanov back on May 7, 2021. Knocking off Eubank Jr would make one fantastic way to close out the year.

For Eubank Jr, he simply would like to compete before year’s end. Otherwise, by the time he does fight, he will have been out of action for roughly one year’s time. So let’s see if this interesting duel can be made a reality.
