William Zepeda Proved No Competition for Shakur Stevenson
WBC lightweight champion Shakur “Fearless” Stevenson proved all the critics wrong after a dominating performance against William “Camaron” Zepeda.
Leading up to the fight, Fearless was wrongfully accused of being a runner. This is solely because of his fight against Edwin De Los Santos in 2023. Saudi power-player Turki Alalshikh poured gas on the fire by claiming they don’t want any more Tom & Jerry-type fights.
Stevenson came out looking sharp, landing countershots. Even when on the ropes, he was able to avoid Camaron’s wide shots before landing the straight left hand. Once he decided to keep the fight in the center of the ring, the New Jersey native hit the Mexican challenger with ease.
In the end, one judge scored it 119-109, with the other two scoring it 118-110. Yet, it seems that several pundits and commentators believe it was a closer fight.
Sergio Mora claimed it was even going into the last two rounds. Even Ring Magazine Editor Douglass Fischer scored it a draw. There is no way the fight was close, and anyone who says so either has an agenda or doesn’t know how to score a fight.
These are the kind of things that are poisoning the sport of boxing and birthing a generation of unknowledgeable fans.
