Stevenson Eyes Possible Unification Bout Against Navarrete
WBC lightweight champion Shakur “Fearless” Stevenson (21-0, 10KO) is eager to face another fellow stablemate in WBO junior lightweight champion Emanuel “Vaquero” Navarrete (38-1-1, 31KO).
Fearless has been living up to his name by actively seeking challenges against top contenders in the division. Upon entering the lightweight division, he set his sights on former undisputed champion Devin Haney.
Following that pursuit, Stevenson expressed a strong desire to face former unified champion Vasyl Lomachenko, a bout that has yet to materialize but remains on his wishlist.
Now, the undefeated WBC champion has a new target in mind.
HE WANTS TO FIGHT ANOTHER FELLOW STABLEMATE
Social media is abuzz with excitement after Stevenson expressed his wish to test his defensive skills against the hard-punching Mexican.
It’s well-known that Navarrete has faced challenges maintaining weight, as evident in his last fight against three-time title challenger Robson Conceicao. Oddly enough, Navarrete’s fight was a draw in a war, with Stevenson’s somewhat disappointing performance against Edwin De Los Santos.
If Navarrete decides to move up, according to WBO rules, a champion transitioning to a different weight class is granted the first opportunity to compete for the title. With Haney vacating the titles, it opens the door for Vaquero to vie for the vacant title.
Should the WBO permit it, a potential Stevenson versus Navarrete matchup could lead to a unification bout. This promises to be an intriguing clash, featuring the classic theme of a boxer versus a puncher.
Will Navarrete’s game-changing power be able to crack the defensive prowess of Stevenson? This question will linger until both fighters step into the ring.
