Tony Harrison Says Tim Tszyu Is Beneath Championship Level as a Fighter
On March 12, one-time junior middleweight champion Tony “Super Bad” Harrison (29-3-1, 15 KOs) will square off against WBO mandatory contender Tim Tszyu (21-0, 15 KOs) for the vacant WBO Interim junior middleweight title at the Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney, Australia. For Harrison, this bout is a simple case of experience versus youth.
This fight came to be when undisputed champion Jermell Charlo had to pull out of a fight with Tszyu due to a broken hand. With Tszyu wanting to keep active and offering to fight a top challenger, Harrison said he was more than willing to take on the mandatory contender.
HOLES IN TSZYU’S GAME
Both fighters have mutual respect for one another, but Harrison has questioned Tszyu’s pedigree as a fighter. During an interview with the Australian source, Sporting News, Australia, the native of Detroit, Michigan feels his upcoming opponent is vulnerable and plans to exploit his weaknesses once the bell rings.
“I do see a lot of bad things about Tim, and a lot of bad things that he do that are not championship-level shit”.
FLIGHT FROM REALITY
At 28, Tszyu is younger and feels that he is a physically stronger fighter. He is also motivated by the belief that boxers from Australia are being disrespected, particularly by Americans. Harrison thinks that’s a figment of Tszyu’s imagination.
“I think he’s putting too much in a big and wide variety of Australians. No, we just talking about Tim. The opponents you’ve faced have been shitty. So, we just judge you on the guys that you fought, not you from Australia . . . The guy you fought to get to the number one spot is . . . disgusting.”
That aside, here’s the reality. Harrison has faced better competition. He also has a height and reach advantage. The 32-year-old sees those physical attributes along with his boxing skills, and years of being on the big stage.
While Tszyu is fighting on his home turf, the former champion thinks that his adversary is not ready for what is the biggest fight of his career. Super Bad is utterly confident he takes care of business and will have his hand raised in victory.
