Austin Williams Picks Up Easy Win Over Javier Francisco Maciel
In his latest at bat, middleweight prospect Austin “Ammo” Williams (10-0, 8 KO’s) snagged a quick and predictable win. In what was little more than a stay-busy bout, Williams stopped the grossly overmatched Javier Francisco “La Bestia” Maciel (33-16, 23 KO’s) in the sixth round of the glorified exhibition.
For some perspective, Maciel entered the contest riding a nine-fight losing streak. La Bestia has not savored the taste of victory since 2018. Clearly, Maciel will not be challenging for anyone’s world title any time soon. While this stoppage was visually impressive, let’s hope that Williams steps it way up in his next prizefight.
ALMOST UNLAWFUL
As expected, Williams came out in the first as the effective aggressor and immediately put Maciel on the defensive. It really didn’t help that the Argentine’s hand speed was about as fast as an ant backstroking through a bowl of maple syrup. His young antagonist leisurely hammered his body, raked his face with blows and dropped him to the canvas with a thumping left hook before two full minutes had elapsed. Minus an additional knockdown, the second was a carbon copy of the first.
Williams opened the third with a burst of aggression. The Wisconsin native increased his output through the first minute of action, devoted a good amount of attention to the body and consistently landed a sneaky, guard-splitting uppercut. In response, Maciel did little else other than backpedal, absorb debilitating hooks to the head and body and occasionally throw laughably slow punches.
Ammo put Maciel on the canvas three times within the first minute of the sixth round. Despite the rapidity of the trips to the canvas, nothing overly devastating landed in any instance. More so than being felled by a concussive blow, Maciel seemed to merely wilt mentally and physically. Each time he went down, the Argentine made it to his feet without issue. But, after the third trip to the floor in the same period, this was all the referee needed to see to halt the action.
