Gamal Yafai Looking to Make a Return to Glory

Rising prospect Gamal “The Beast” Yafai (17-1, 10ko) is going to make a huge step forward on the domestic level. He will challenge Italian boxer, Luca Rigoldi for the EBU European junior featherweight title.

The Beast is the younger brother of WBA junior bantamweight champion Khalid “Kal” Yafai. Kal will be making a major title defense against former top pound for pound fighter Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez.

Looking to step out of his older brother’s shadow, this is a great opportunity to grab a domestic level title. Moreover, he can crack into the ranking system against the IBF #15 rated Italian boxer. Furthermore, the 28-year-old British prospect will be traveling into hostile territory, going to the backyard of the EBU champion where the pressure will be on.

Yafai was riding high in the early part of his career, winning both the Commonwealth/WBC international junior featherweight title and earning a #6 rated spot by the WBA. Things were looking good, until he faced former title contender Gavin McDonnell back in March 2018.

This setback could have been a major roadblock. However, the Beast would live up to his nickname, returning and knocking out the next three opponents. Now with his career back on track and in a position to regain serious momentum, the younger Yafai understands what is at stake.

INTERESTING FACTS

Rigoldi has never fought outside of Italy and will be fighting a fighter from the United Kingdom for the first time in his career.

Yafai will be traveling outside the United Kingdom for the second time in his career. He was victorious the first time.

Looking to inform the fans of the news, Yafai took to social media and showed his appreciation.
