Canelo Alvarez will look to get the third of four major titles May 4 when he steps in the ring with IBF champion Daniel Jacobs

Canelo Alvarez and Daniel Jacobs will face in a unification match-up at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Cinco de Mayo weekend! This major announcement came off the heels of another major report involving Jacobs signing a deal to feature on DAZN.

Many fans speculated this bout would take place once Jacobs entered the ring after Canelo defeated Rocky Fielding in December. Additionally, pundits scoffed at the idea of Canelo facing Fielding and were adamant that Eddie Hearn, Golden Boy and DAZN must make a major fight for the unified champion next.

Well here it is! They start 2019 off with fire-works as the entire boxing community is buzzing about this three-belt unification.

The two men were in a brief negotiation period amid controversy surrounding the purse Gennady Golovkin should receive for the rematch with Canelo in June 2018. However, once Golovkin agreed to a 55/45 split, negotiations with Jacobs ceased and the rematch was made in September.

Speaking of Golovkin, this news is somewhat of a surprise considering rumors of him possibly signing with DAZN by months end. This had many boxing enthusiast thinking a third fight with Canelo would be next.

Eddie Hearn has always insisted this fight should be the next big fight at middleweight. This is good news for all of boxing and another great fight for the fans as they count the days until May 4!
