Chris Eubank Jr Plans To Invoke Rematch Clause with Liam Smith!
Middleweight contender Chris “Next Gen” Eubank Jr (32-3, 23KO) is going to have to answer a lot of questions after suffering his first knockout defeat. On January 21, he was upset by former WBO junior middleweight champion Liam “Beefy” Smith (33-3-1, 20). Next Gen is looking at invoking the rematch clause sometime soon.

Next Gen has always enjoyed playing the bad guy and has made a successful career out of getting under people’s skin with obnoxious behavior. He has not lost a fight since a lopsided defeat at the hands of George Groves in 2018.
Eubank Jr is known for having a beard, so the knockout has the boxing world in disbelief. Even those who picked Smith to win felt it would with a decision as no one saw this coming.
EUBANK JR CALLS FOR THE REMATCH
Some pundits are already beginning to ask the question of what will Eubank do now. His being stopped by the much smaller Smith had commentators on Sky Sports suggesting he could retire.
During the post-fight interview, Eubank hinted at invoking the rematch clause allowed in his contract. Adding even more intrigue to the topic, Smith is willing to do a rematch should Eubank Jr desire it. The brash middleweight contender took to social media and was even more emphatic about the rematch.
Eubank Jr had a noticeable swollen right eye that could be a broken orbital bone. Even if it is not that serious, he could be sidelined for a minute just waiting on the swelling to go down. It will be interesting to see if the 33-year-old maintains that same mindset after having some time to think.
