Conor Benn Opens Up a Potential Slot for Danny Garcia
Looking to land a big name, Conor “The Destroyer” Benn (23-0, 14KO) could be on the verge of fighting two-divisional champion Danny “Swift” Garcia (37-3, 21KO). The Destroyer hit social media with a harsh message for the Philadelphian.
The Destroyer was involved in a heated back and forth with multi-divisional champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis, which resulted in a potential showdown being on the table. In addition, he took to social media, instructing Tank to put up or shut up and sign the contract.
Things have gone quiet on that front, and it now seems a new challenger has emerged in Swift. Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn has revealed that Garcia indeed reached out inquiring about fighting the undefeated Brit.
NOW IS THE TIME TO MAKE THE FIGHT
Benn, understanding the Philadelphian’s name would be good to have on his resume, took to social media with a message that has boxing fans talking.
The Destroyer has been on the comeback trail since overcoming the scandal of a failed test for a banned substance in 2022. In his last performance, the Brit dominated Peter Dobson en route to a unanimous decision in his third fight in the United States.
Garcia was trying to get a fight with WBA middleweight champion Erislandy Lara. The fight did not materialize as Lara will be defending the title against Michael Zerafa on March 30.
The timing to make this fight couldn’t be more perfect as both fighters are free, and they both need a victory over a creditable name. Also, stylistically, it would be a crowd-pleaser as both fighters love to get in close and bang.
In this author’s opinion, Benn would be the favorite to win the fight, considering Garcia hasn’t fought since 2022.
