DAZN and Golden Boy Partnership Renewed
It’s has recently been revealed boxing streaming service provider DAZN has officially realigned themselves with Golden Boy Promotions. The multi-year agreement includes a new program series called Golden Boy Fight Night on DAZN. It is designed to highlight up and coming prospective talent. The monthly series would sport broadcaster Beto Duran and retired hall of famer Bernard Hopkins as the show’s hosts.
DAZN and Golden Boy, which is helmed by owner Oscar De La Hoya, initially linked up well back in 2018 when they forged their first contract together. Clearly, the two entities have been satisfied enough with one another to continue their working relationship. If all goes according to plan, both businesses will be happy to showcase Golden Boy’s premiere talent later this year in the form of Jaime Munguia, Ryan Garcia and Vergil Ortiz. Golden Boy did take a major hit to their roster when boxing cash cow and undisputed super middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez walked away.
Luckily for DAZN though, Canelo opted to retain Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Boxing as his unofficial promoter. This was great fortune for DAZN because Hearn has always functioned as their authorized mouthpiece in the American territory. With this being the case, Canelo has continued to have his fights televised on their app. In fact, Alvarez just staged the first pay-per-view event on the app that came in the game saying that they were going to end boxing PPV all together. So, it should be interesting to see what fruit the next several years of his partnership can bear.
