Devin Haney and Jo Jo Diaz could be headed for a December showdown

WBC lightweight champion Devin “The Dream” Haney (26-0, 15ko) and WBC interim titlist Joseph “Jo Jo” Diaz (32-1-1, 15ko) look as if they are finally going to fight.

THE HISTORY OF HOW WE GOT HERE

The Dream has been all over social media attempting to bait Diaz into a fight, and it looks as if he is about to get his wish. Diaz won the Interim title along with the mandatory position by defeating former champion Javier Fortuna.

Diaz was going to fight the WBC champion but was pressured into fighting fellow Golden Boy Promotions stablemate Ryan “King Ry” Garcia. Garcia was returning from taking time off to deal with mental depression. Fans were not pleased with this move as many took to social media heckling at Diaz. However, Garcia would later pull out of the fight due to an injury. The WBC champion used this opening to call out Jo Jo for a showdown in December.

“Let’s make this fight Dec 3.”

Of course, Diaz responded and took a little shot at Haney in the process.

“Contact MTKGlobal let’s do it, actually send the contract this time, bitch.”

Haney took to social media afterward to let the fans know a contract had been sent to Diaz along with a little message of his own.

“Joseph Diaz Jr your team now have a offer for exactly the same as you accepted to fight Ryan….Let’s see who’s the bitch now!”

WILL THE FIGHT HAPPEN?

Haney once again took to the negotiating platform of social media, wanting to keep the pressure on, making it look as if Diaz did not want the fight.

In this author’s opinion, Haney played this very well. It was clear this time he was not going to let the opportunity slip away, and was very aggressive in getting the fight.

Diaz also deserves credit for accepting the fight, and his response gives hope that this fight will happen. Nonetheless, fans will hold a little bit of skepticism aside until there is an official announcement.
