Evelin Bermudez Decisions Clavel; Undisputed Possible in 2024
Unified light flyweight champion Evelin Bermudez (19-1-1, 6KO) has proved her mettle by successfully defending her titles against former WBC champion Kim Clavel on October 7. Now, her sights should be set on an undisputed showdown. but against who?
In the lead-up to the fight, Bermudez made a vow to retain her unified champion status, despite fighting in Clavel’s home country of Canada. The ten-round battle between these two warriors lived up to the hype, with both women leaving it all in the ring, showcasing their skill and determination.
Bermudez stayed true to her word and emerged victorious with a split decision. Two judges scored the bout 96-94 in her favor, while one judge saw it 98-92 for Clavel.
Now, the logical next step for Bermudez is pursuing an undisputed title. However, she will need to bide her time to see who her challenger will be. Fellow unified champion Yesica Nery Plata is set to face Sarah Bormann on December 16.
The Argentinian has made an impressive comeback since her first career loss to Yokasta Valle in 2022. She quickly reclaimed the titles that were vacated by Valle, in securing a victory over Tania Enriquez on March 10, as talks of undisputed arose afterward.
As we look ahead to 2024, the light flyweight division holds the promise of a significant showdown on the horizon.
