O’Shaquie Foster Ready to Shine at Home Against Raymond Ford
It’s a homecoming for O’Shaquie “Ice Water” Foster as he prepares to defend the WBC junior lightweight title against Raymond “Savage” Ford on May 30 at the Fertitta Center in Houston. Foster views the opportunity as a chance to make a major statement in front of his hometown supporters. Furthermore, the champion appears to have all the tools necessary to defend his crown in impressive fashion.
In his last outing, Foster (24-3, 12 KOs) delivered a dominant unanimous-decision victory over former unified junior featherweight champion Stephen Fulton in December 2025. Defeating such a respected name elevated Foster’s standing throughout the boxing world. Additionally, it further solidified his reputation as one of the sport’s most skilled technicians.
READY TO DELIVER
Ford (18-1-1, 9 KO’s) enters the contest determined to become a two-division world champion after previously holding the WBA featherweight title. During an exclusive with Matchroom Promotions, Foster expressed confidence that Savage will struggle once the action begins.
“I’m going to shock the world again and I’m going to dominate. He’s a good little fighter, but he’s never fought nobody on my level. Nobody on his resume is even close to what I do. I’m going to show him on fight night that he bit off more than he can chew.
[…] You’re doing all that talking to me and responding to everything I way. You better be working on that chin, doing some neck exercises for some of this shit you’re going to be hit with, because we ain’t worried. We built like that.”
Ford certainly possesses the talent to trouble anyone at 130 pounds, but inconsistency has occasionally plagued his performances. He has shown a tendency to fight in spurts. On the other hand, Foster consistently maintains a high work-rate over the course of a fight. In addition, Foster owns the sharper and more effective jab. If he establishes that punch early, it could become the key weapon that keeps Ford from settling into a rhythm.
Foster also understands that a convincing victory could position him for lucrative opportunities at both, 130 and 135 pounds. With a hometown crowd behind him, the reigning champion is aiming to elevate his career to another level by turning back Ford in emphatic fashion.
