O’Shaquie Foster Victory Sets Up Major Title Opportunity

In 2021, junior lightweight O’Shaquie “Ice Water” Foster’s (20-2, 11 KO’s) career was in limbo over a contract dispute with promoter Lou DiBella. The talented young fighter has been out of the ring since defeating Miguel Roman in 2020. Now fighting under the Probellum banner, Ice Water scored a huge WBC title eliminator victory over Muhammadkhuja Yaqubov (18-1, 10 KO’s).

Foster, ranked #1 by the WBC, is competing in a talent-rich division, and has put himself in the mix for a possible title shot. Moreover, he pitched a shutout by winning the fight via unanimous decision. He used his superior boxing skills and scored an eleventh-round knockdown. This helped seal the deal en route to a judges’ scorecards reading of 117-110, 117-110, and 118-109.

WHAT IS NEXT?

This puts a lot of eyes on the winner of the unification featuring WBC champion Oscar Valdez and WBO champion Shakur Stevenson. Foster will be paying close attention to their fight set to take place on April 30. If the WBC orders the fight later this year, the shaky history between Probellum’s CEO Richard Shaffer and Top Rank’s Bob Arum will have to be put aside to make the fight.

Foster, who was once seeking a fight with Chris Colbert, has scored the biggest win of his career. Moreover, he is on a serious seven-fight win streak since losing his last fight against Rolando Chinea back in 2016. With this new development, this already-exciting division is about to get turned up even more.
