Ryan Garcia returns to action against veteran Francisco Fonseca!

3kingsboxing has recently learned that Golden Boy Promotions lightweight sensation Ryan “The Flash” Garcia (19-0, 16 KO’s) will return to action on February 14. Rather than love, on this Valentine’s Day Garcia will be looking for the blood of Francisco Fonseca (25-2-2, 19 KO’s).

The two will duel at the Honda Center located in Anaheim, California. The upcoming prizefight will be televised live on DAZN.

A SOLID 2019 IN THE BOOKS

The Flash is coming off a somewhat slow but successful year of boxing in 2019. Garcia only fought a pair of bouts versus Jose Lopez in March and Romero Duno in November. Garcia won both matches by way of stoppage. Lopez faltered in the second round, while Duno fell in the first. His test of might should prove a bit more challenging with Fonseca.

Aside from playing the role of meat grinder against the aforementioned opponents, Garcia had a good year of legal success. For a brief period, Garcia engaged his Golden Boy promoters in a very public dispute. The Flash felt as if he was being poorly promoted and slighted financially, so he drew his line in the sand.

After kicking sand on the company for a spell, Team Garcia was able to get their heads in sync with Golden Boy. In rather short order, a few tweaks in expectations and pay day numbers had been applied to Garcia’s new multiyear contract. Once done, the immensely popular pugilist was only too happy to sign.

THE NEXT CHALLENGE

On February 14, most expect Fonseca to provide more push back than did Garcia’s last two foes. The game Nicaraguan is durable and willing to fight if nothing else. Thus far, he has not proven to be a world beater though.

When in with his two toughest opponents, Tevin Farmer and Gervonta Davis, he came up short in both endeavors. Farmer handily outpointed him, while Davis stopped him. No one else on his resume comes close to the talent level or achieved the success of Davis or Farmer. It will be interesting to see how the Flash adjusts to the pressure of Fonseca.

If Garcia can cope well and look good, it will be another slick feather in his cap. Now if Garcia managed to stop Fonseca, that would be truly impressive. The stoppage loss to Gervonta Davis is the only one on his ledger.
