Montana Love Returning to Action Against Gabriel Valenzuela
Last August 29, super lightweight fighter Montana “Too Pretty” Love (17-0-1, 9 KO’s) collected the most significant scalp of his career. While competing in his native Cleveland, Ohio hometown, Love toppled the hardnosed Ivan Baranchyk in a very exciting fight. Looking to capitalize off this dynamic showing, Too Pretty transformed the successful outing into a multi-fight deal with Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing.
In this first match, after signing with Hearn’s promotional outfit, the flamboyant southpaw roughed up and stopped Carlos Diaz in three brief rounds. Now, as his short-term contract should be approaching its conclusion, Love will test his might against the challenge of Gabriel Gollaz Valenzuela (25-2-1, 15 KO’s). The two will clash on the undercard of the high-profile Canelo Alvarez versus Dmitry Bivol undercard on May 7. More than likely, this is not a bout that Love is jumping for joy to compete in.
BRING ON THE BIG FISH!
It’s no secret that Too Pretty is hungry for title shot opportunities and openly hunting top name boxers. He is already on the books for having called out Regular WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis and fellow Ohioan Adrien Broner to showdowns. Ranked #10 (IBF), his ambitions to duel with a belt-holding champion is not really all that far-fetched. Love is very comfortable in front of a camera, has legitimate skills, is currently backed by a big-time promoter and has established himself as a fun fighter on a very large stage.
If given his way, there is little doubt that the Cleveland native would have loved to face Teofimo Lopez as Eddie Hearn has already suggested. Now Love could be being optimistic and hopes to have another sensationally short night. If he blitzes and discombobulates Valenzuela in monstrous fashion, obviously that would be the best case scenario. Yet, the most important thing for Too Pretty to remain mindful of is not overlooking his next foe simply because he is not who he wanted. Losing, or even stumbling badly in the ring at this point, could be disastrous for the budding pugilist. So, let’s see how Love handles this evolution match on yet another tremendous stage!
