Josh Padley Upsets Mark Chamberlain by Unanimous Decision
After a spirited battle, heavy underdog lightweight fighter Josh “Paddy” Padley (15-0, 4 KO’s) upset Mark “Thunder” Chamberlain (16-1, 12 KO’s) by way of unanimous decision.
Right from the first round, Paddy neutralized nearly all of Chamberlain’s offense with his faster and never-stationary feet. From the outside, Padley darted in behind a reliable jab, landed another quick two and three punches and tied up. This formula on repeat was enough to foil Thunder for the majority of the duel. Neither man did much of any prolonged inside fighting.
Clearly frustrated, Chamberlain, ranked #5 (IBF), #6 (WBC) and #8 (WBO,) engaged in a number of fouls that referee Victor Loughlin routinely called him on. Things went from bad to worse when a left hook dropped Thunder in the eighth, then was deducted a point in the ninth for fouls.
When the fight went to the cards, Padley prevailed by unanimous decision to the tune of 95-93 and 96-92 (twice). It will be interesting to see what’s next for both fighters as this is a huge upset.
