Scott Quigg Looking To Silence Jono Carroll on March 7

On March 7 at the Manchester Arena in Manchester, England, Scott Quigg (35-2-2, 26 KOs) squares off against Jono Carroll (17-1-1, 3 KOs) in a pivotal 12-round super featherweight contest.

During a sitdown interview with Josh Denzel for the Matchroom Boxing YouTube series “Born Fighter,” Quigg discussed his upcoming bout against Carroll. The 31-year-old former WBA “Regular” World Super Bantamweight champion from Bury, Lancashire, England has two goals. The first goal is to win. Secondly, Quigg wants to shut up the brash, trash-talking Carroll.

“I respect any fighter that gets through the ropes. It only takes one punch to change a fight. He’s the slightly bigger man. I’m strong enough, I hit hard enough, I’m tough enough, and the main thing is I’m more than smart enough to deal with the bigger guys.

I proved that day in day out at the Wildcard. People like Jono come through the Wildcard door every day and I’ve sparred and dealt with many people like him. I’m not taking it lightly, but I know what I need to do. I’ve put the right preparation in and I’m more than ready.

The amount of nonsense he talks, because he talks that much, he starts to believe it. If he didn’t believe it he’d start going into himself, he’d start having the doubts. He hopes I’m scared. Unfortunately for him, I’m not scared of him.”

Verbal darts have been thrown by each on Twitter in the lead-up to what can only be described as an important and crucial fight for both men.

For Quigg, he has a stated goal of once again winning a world title in 2020, and would love a rematch against the two fighters who have defeated him, Oscar Valdez and Carl Frampton.

Carroll, who lost a competitive battle to former IBF Super Featherweight in March 2019, needs a win to stay relevant. The 27-year-old from Dublin, Ireland wants to keep himself in-line for another possible world title opportunity.

So given the stakes, the pre-fight verbal sparring, and the styles of both men, expect this to be a highly competitive battle. You can watch this all UK showdown live on DAZN.
