Lerrone Richards Scoffs at Rocky Fielding Being a Serious Threat

When super middleweight Lerrone “Sniper the Boss” Richards (16-0, 3 KO’s) defeated Carlos Gongora in his last bout, he thought of it as an introduction to the world stage. With this belief, he inherently thought some fights were in his grasp and he had more or less outgrown other options.

Armed with the IBO super middleweight title that he pirated away from Gongora, Sniper has begun targeting names such as Fedor Chudinov, Anthony Dirrell and Caleb Plant. One name in particular that he believes is not on par with his own skillset is former WBA ‘regular’ super middleweight champion Rocky Fielding (29-2, 17 KO’s). When speaking with Boxing Social, Richards delved into greater detail regarding his feelings toward Fielding bout and their brief history.

“I don’t care. Rocky Fielding is a joke, I don’t know what he is doing with his career. When I won the European title, he was talking about fighting me and then he went quiet.

“He’s had one fight out in Dubai, I don’t know what’s going on with his career, don’t really care. He is irrelevant. I don’t need to chase Rocky Fielding. If he wants it, he knows where I am, but he is a joke!”

Clearly Richards is not pressed in any way to try to stage a domestic level dust-up with Fielding, a former foe of Callum Smith and undisputed super middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez. It will be interesting to see Fielding exhibit any notable effort to secure a fight after seeing Sniper’s overtly dismissive comments. Let’s just wait to see what develops next for both Fielding and Richards.
