Is Rolando Romero Missing an Opportunity by Ignoring Keyshawn Davis?

During a recent social media rant, lightweight prospect Keyshawn “The Businessman” Davis (6-0, 5 KO’s) took shots at several fighters. Among those pugilists was the ever-quotable Rolando “Rolly” Romero (14-1, 12 KO’s). According to Davis, the two share a history in which he has already scared Romero to the core of his being. Naturally the Olympic silver medalist would love to get Rolly in the ring.

Beef aside, Romero would be the highest profile boxer on The Businessman’s budding resume. There is no questioning that Rolly has a knack for self-promotion, as many believe his social media skill set is far more responsible for his notoriety in the sport than are his in-ring performances. Combining his memorable verbal anecdotes with the buzz surrounding Davis should make for one interesting affair. Whether it’s a good fight or not, it’s clear that Romero is not paying this would-be rivalry much attention.

NOTHING BUT SPACE AND OPPORTUNITY

Only time will tell if Rolly secures his rematch with Gervonta “Tank” Davis. On the outside looking in however, his chances are not very optimistic. Prior to their duel, Tank was completely dismissive of Romero as a fighter and delighted in trashing his skillset. Furthermore, given the fact that Rolly was stopped by knockout, there is even less incentive for Tank to face him agai. So, if Romero is unsuccessful in penning a rematch with Tank, then who else would he fight?

In The Businessman, Romero has another unquestionably talented opponent to test himself against. Provided that Rolly defeated or remained consistently competitive with Keyshawn Davis, this would continue to push the narrative that he is more than just a colorful character in the sport. From a marketing standpoint, both fighters would benefit from what would surely be a war of words throughout the pre-fight build-up. So, let’s just sit back and see if anything develops from this spat or if it’s just a case of blowing more hot air.
