Tevin Farmer Suspects Foul Play In William Zepeda Fight
In his last bout, lightweight boxer Tevin “2X” Farmer (33-7-1, 8 KO’s) came up on the short end of the stick. In that contest, Farmer fought and lost by split decision to William “Shrimp” Zepeda (32-0, 27 KO’s) following a neck-and-neck duel. Since losing that prizefight, Farmer has taken to his social media to express his displeasure and deep concern about the fight’s lack of drug testing.
HOLD THE LINE
Drug testing has technically remained a huge issue in the sport. Yet, while there is a fair measure of testing that goes on, there are many fighters who don’t fuss over the details. More distressing than that, even if flagged, many fans and those in the industry don’t seem to really care. Such was the case when Ryan Garcia was flagged in his bout with Devin Haney. Yet, a significant chunk of those who chime in only seem to care that Garcia was powerful in the fight and don’t bother with the doping aspect.
Feeling that he may have just played the fool, Tevin Farmer wants to know why there was no testing in the title fight when it was contractually included. Especially, given the amount of attention and light being shined on Williams Zepeda, who is ranked #1 (WBO), #1 (WBA) and #1 (WBC), and the tremendous amount of leverage that he holds right now.
Provided that it is factual that drug testing should have been incorporated but was not, it will be interesting to see how Farmer reacts. Despite being largely dragged through the mud for doing so, the aforementioned Devin Haney has since sued Garcia over his confirmed drug violation. Will Farmer now haul folks to court for not upholding his rights? And if he does, what will this mean for Zepeda? These are all realistic possibilities that could have big ramifications in the near future.
