Trevor McCumby Is Eager To Show Polish Against Caleb Plant

When super middleweight contender Trevor McCumby (28-0, 21 KO’s) laces up to fight on September 14, he will do so largely as an unknown fighter. Due to this, many believe that his opponent, former 168-pound champion Caleb “Sweethands” Plant (22-2, 13 KO’s), will chew him up like snuff in a major league dugout. Despite these negative forecasts, McCumby is more than confident that he has what it takes to foil the one-time champion.

In fact, the nondescript bruiser with heavy hands believes that Plant is playing right into his hands with the mental storyline that he’s created.

“Listen, I have been wanting an opportunity my whole career! It didn’t happen in the first half of my career, now I am getting it. I called him out, I called out like three, four other names in that call-out video. So, I think Caleb is a little delusional. He’s creating this narrative in his head that I am the bad guy and I called him out. Yeah, I called him out. Bro, but you chose to fight me! I’m not in that position, he knows that. I’m number 8 in the WBA, I do deserve a title shot and that’s what I got, but he’s going to keep crying about fighting me. He’s the one that chose me! He had four other names, he chose me, so I don’t know.”

SHOW AND PROVE

Throughout the pre-fight build up, Plant has made a big deal about McCumby choosing him to be his step-up fight to get a name on his resume. Clearly McCumby is mystified about this animosity considering he feels the final call was up to Sweethands. Yet, there could be some truth to Plant hyping up any potential disrespect past what has actually transpired.

The former champion is very well-known for saying that all the inhabitants of his division are enemies and to be viewed with venom. Carrying this in mind, it is easy to envision Sweethands inflating McCumby’s call out into something more sinister than it was meant to be. Or, maybe Plant is on the right track and McCumby is playing it cool to get under his skin before their final showdown.

Regardless of what each fighter’s mentality was leading up to their clash, fight night is almost here and everything will be sorted in the ring! Yet, it does appear that this is a grudge match for Plant and a must-win fight for McCumby. With this being the case, when all is said and done, it should make for a fun and memorable bout for the fight fans.
