Eddie Hearn reveals Demetrius Andrade v Chris Eubank is a possibility!
WBO Middleweight champion Demetrius “Boo Boo” Andrade (30-0, 18KOs) could find himself defending his title against Chris Eubank Jr (29-2, 22KOs). That hinges on Eddie Hearn’s inability to secure high-stakes unification bouts with either WBA champion Ryota Murata, IBF champion Gennady Golovkin or WBC champion Jermall Charlo.
In his last fight on April 17, Andrade easily defeated his mandatory challenger Liam “The Machine” Williams (23-3-1, 18KOs). Still, securing a marquee fight for Andrade has been an extremely difficult task for Hearn.
WHAT ABOUT ANDRADE V EUBANK JR?
The possibility of an Andrade v Eubank Jr fight was thrown out by a fan during a recent Instagram live by Eddie Hearn. Let’s be clear, this is not the ideal fight for Andrade or Hearn. However, the reality is that Andrade has to stay active regardless if they are unifications fights or not.
While Eubank has been a disappointment, he does have some solid victories in his career. He has wins over former IBF Middleweight and WBO Super Middleweight champion Arthur Abraham, former IBF Super Middleweight champion James DeGale and former world title challenger Matvey Korobov. Eubank is ranked number one in the WBA, so a fight with WBA Middleweight champion Ryota Murata is also a possibility.
IT KIND OF MAKES SENSE!
If Andrade is unable to secure the fights he wants, a fight against Eubank Jr would be mildly intriguing. He is athletic, fast and powerful. Another reason to make this fight is the possibility of it taking place in the UK. This would be a golden opportunity for Andrade to broaden his exposure to fans across the pond. So while it may not be the fight he or Hearn wants, there are some upsides to be taken out of this possible scenario.
