Chris Colbert Looks Forward to Bouts with Tank Davis & Shakur Stevenson at 135

On February 26, super featherweight pugilist Chris “Primetime” Colbert (16-0, 6 KO’s) will stage his next in-ring battle. On that date, Primetime will ply his deadly trade against Dominican boxer Hector “El Droide” Garcia (14-0, 10 KO’s). According to Colbert, who is ranked #1 (WBA), Garcia will be easy work on fight night.

Provided that the Brooklynite is reading his crystal ball accurately, come Sunday morning he will be in need of a new and higher profile opponent. While neither are likely to be his next adversary, Colbert has two fighters that he’d love to test his wits and grit against. During a recent Q&A provided by Brian Custer of the Last Stand Podcast, Primetime delved a bit deeper into his thoughts on the matter.

“Them two [Gervonta Davis and Shakur Stevenson] are the biggest fights for me right now, but not at ’30, at 135.”

THE BIGGEST FISH

Of the two of these fighters though, Primetime has shared a more extensive history of trash talking with WBO super featherweight champion “Fearless” Shakur Stevenson (17-0, 9 KO’s). Even though Colbert realizes that Stevenson is a force in the division, this does not mean that he harbors a great deal of personal respect for him.

“Wasn’t no back and forth, he [Stevenson] is just a sucka! I don’t fuck with boxers period, they be suckas! They want to laugh in your face and the next thing you know, you check YouTube and they talking about you in an interview. So that’s why I don’t fuck with them at all! The only person that I mess with is Danny Garcia, Tony Harrison and Erickson Lubin, that’s it! The rest of them, it’s just ‘what’s up’ and that’s it.”

Thankfully, his opinion on how Stevenson moves does not affect Colbert’s ability to assess him as a fighter.

“Shakur is very, very talented. He got the distance, the only thing he don’t got is the power and I don’t know if he has the dog. But he is definitely a special kid though, shout out to him and his team. Keep doing his thing, wishing him the best in his fight coming up that he got and in the future we are going to get it rocking!”

Granted that Primetime successfully collects the scalp of Garcia on February 26, then he certainly does have some dynamic match-ups to try to make a reality. So first let’s see how his next dance date plays out.
