Demontaze “Juicy” Duncan Back In Action vs Tyrone Crawley Jr.
Louisville, Kentucky – On Tuesday September 27th one of the fastest rising prospects in boxing returns to the ring as the Main Event in his hometown of Louisville, Kentucky. Demontaze “Juicy” Duncan who we at 3kings have previously featured as one of the top prospects in boxing has power in both hands and has quickly amassed 7 wins with 7 knockouts in as many fights.
The Welterweight Duncan, will be in the ring with Philadelphia veteran and slick southpaw Tyrone Crawley Jr. Crawley is the son of former ESPN Champion and Philadelphia icon Tyrone “Butterfly” Crawley.
THE PEOPLE’S CHAMP?
Louisville, Kentucky is known for Horse Racing, Bourbon and Muhammad Ali who was nicknamed ‘The Peoples Champ’ but the 20 year old Duncan has drawn comparisons from fans alike because of a shared hometown. The young boxer was born and raised just blocks from the house where Muhammad was raised in the historic and impoverished West End of Louisville.
Fans have gravitated to the big smile, charming personality and the charitable work Duncan has done in his community. He has the moniker “Juicy Loves The Kids” and coach/trainer Nicholas Bareis estimates Duncan has purchased over two thousand tee-shirts to hand out to kids all over the city.
“To see a young man from the back ground, upbringing and devastation that Demontaze has endured, to be a positive roll model and great leader for his generation, I am beyond proud of the young man he has become. Trust me when I tell you he has come light years from where he began.” Says Bareis who has coached Demontaze from the beginning of his amateur career. Bareis also was Duncan’s legal guardian from age 14 to 18 years old.
In an area of despair, it appears Duncan provides hope for his community. He has energized a fan base in Louisville that believes he is their best hope for a World Champion in almost 40 years. Louisville hasn’t had a World Champion since the late Greg Page in 1984. Although Duncan has a ways to go, he has drawn comparisons to the Greatest even if it’s only because of the shared hometown.
HYPE JOB or Real McCoy?
A lot can be made out about Duncan and his punching power but the low level of opposition through 7 fights leads many to believe he may be hype. He has exhibited one punch knockout power in both hands but the level of competition has been less than average. In his first test of the young puncher’s career we find Duncan in the ring with an older and much wiser fighter. Crawley Jr. is 7-1-1 and is coming off a brief layoff but will be quick and fast.
If “Juicy” showcases his power, speed and skills that many insiders across the boxing world have raved about we will know he is not a hype job and he might just be the Real McCoy.
WHAT TO EXPECT ON TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 27TH FROM DUNCAN
His coach and trainer said he expects Duncan to start fast and apply pressure. “Juicy is bringing the heat and he never backs down from a fight” said Bareis who predicted when asked predicted a 2nd round knockout of Crawley. If he can keep the pressure on the older Crawley Jr. one would expect it to be a quick night and easy work for Duncan.
The pressure of fighting in front of 1500 fans in your hometown seems unusual for a young prospect but Duncan has a huge fan base and the energy from the crowd has seemingly encouraged the prospect to press the action in previous fights. You can expect the same on Tuesday Night. We predict Duncan wins by 3rd round stoppage.
