Ryan Garcia not impressed by Gervonta Davis

To begin the year, lightweight boxer Ryan “King Ry” Garcia (21-0, 18 KO’s) got off to a sensational start with his seventh-round knockout victory over Luke Campbell. The win was easily the best of professional career. Since that January 2 conquest however, Garcia has all but enrolled himself in the witness protection program.

He would go on to have failed fight attempts with Manny Pacquiao, Javier Fortuna, Joseph Diaz and Gervonta Davis. Garcia has charged these failures to mental health woes, injury and politics. Understandably, King Ry is simply ready to get back in the ring to prove that he is still a top player. One fighter that Garcia would like to test himself against is regular WBA lightweight champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis (26-0, 24 KO’s).

TANK BUSTER

During the first half of 2021, Davis and Garcia made a great deal of headlines by talking about their impending prizefight. Despite all the lip service, the bout crumbled during the behind-the-scenes negotiations. Even worse, as a result of all the unrealized bouts, Garcia’s reputation has begun to suffer in the industry. Thankfully, for him at least, King Ry is still stuffed with confidence and still believes that he is head and shoulder above Davis as he revealed during a recent session going live on his social media.

“Of course, I think I’ll beat Tank! I know that I knock him out, that’s that fight! After that, I don’t even know what is going to happen.”

Going a bit further, King Ry took the time to throw a few shots.

“With all these performances from Tank, he was getting beat by Mario Barrios, he was getting beat by Leo Santa Cruz, he got bailed out twice. And then he pretty much lost to [Isaac] Cruz, barely won. So, you don’t think [Luke] Campbell could have gave him some work? You’re crazy if you don’t think that!”

STAY POSITIVE

When it comes to Garcia though, 2021 has taught that only seeing is believing. Until he pens a bout against a known fighter, that actually happens, all things King Ry relayed should be regarded with extreme skepticism. Yet, the same goes with Tank.

Sure, Davis was slightly more active than Garcia. However, there is a mighty raucous demand for Tank to step-up his level of opposition. Sadly, this call has remained unanswered. This is why a Tank versus King Ry showdown would be that much more intriguing. Let’s just hope that politics and egos don’t continue to prevent this fun action-fight from being put together.
