Stephen Fulton wants the rematch with Figueroa to clear up any doubt!

Prior to his fight with Brandon “The Heartbreaker” Figueroa (22-1-1, 17 KO’s), WBO and WBC super bantamweight champion Stephen “Cool Boy Steph” Fulton (20-0, 8 KO’s) thought he’d be easy work. After stepping in the ring with him, Fulton admits that Figueroa was a rough-tumble fight and a competitive one at that. Yet, that is where the credit that he extends to the Heartbreaker comes to a bloody wall halt.

For Cool Boy Steph, while the bout held its challenger, he was the unquestioned victor in the dust-up. If anything, the unified champion believes that it was the rowdiness of the pro-Figueroa crowd that supported a neck-and-neck feel of the affair. This is exactly the sentiment that he shared with Brian Custer on the Last Stand Podcast.

“Look at the difference between our faces…I’ve attacked your head more times and I’ve hit you clean more times than you have hit me. And it showed within his face! I don’t have nothing on my face, I am not on the interview in glasses or anything. So it’s like it was an illusion. And mainly its more so the Mexicans fans, and I understand why. They like those type of battles, nobody wants to lose. So I understand, I am not mad that everybody is saying it was a robbery or this, that and the third. I be more so mad at myself for making it a close fight like that for those words to even be said or put in the air!”

SECOND CRACK AT THE TITLE?!

Seeking to inject substance into this belief, Fulton has advocated that they run the bout back. As the old adage goes, the proud Philly native would rather be about it than talk about it.

“No hard feelings with anybody but I want to fight. If he want to do it again, we can rematch it while we are still close to that weight. We ain’t got to wait that long, we can rematch it! And I know that I won and I am still offering the rematch. It’s not the first time that I said it. And I am only offering a rematch, not because of the fact that y’all think I lost but, more so because I knew I should have made it more cleaner. So I am going to give a clear victory this time.”

Given the wild excitement and Figueroa’s feelings of contempt and anger, this rematch should make for must-see TV. Hopefully this prizefight will make it across the line because the fans would be the true beneficiaries.
