Christian Mbilli and Lester Martinez Stage a Crowd-pleaser!
On the undercard of one of the most meaningful fights of the year, super middleweight boxers Christian “Solide” Mbilli (29-0-1, 24 KO’s) and Lester Martinez (19-0-1, 16 KO’s) put on a thrilling show. In what turned out to be a dream for the fans and nightmare for the judges, Mbilli and Martinez fought to a three-way split draw. Could a rematch be in the cards?
Given the extreme competitiveness and see-saw nature of the duel, this was far from an unsavory outcome. With the cards falling as they have, interim WBA super middleweight champion Mbilli will retain his title. Both men will maintain their undefeated records.
What’s next for these fighters is anyone’s guess. Technically speaking, given the entertaining nature of this match, a immediate rematch would be easy to sell to the fans. There is no doubt that Martinez would be eager to take another shot at Solide and his hardware. Mbilli, on the other hand, may not be so keen on that notion.
From the Mbilli’s standpoint, he would only get a win on principle. Outside of that, he’d be risking his belt against a dangerous opponent ranked lower than him that he just narrowly escaped. Given the notable high-risk to low-reward ratio, it is much more likely to see Mbilli find a whole new dance partner. Naturally, he will be 100% focused on Alvarez and Crawford in the main event. Yet, let’s see what he and his team can drum up next.
