Leo Atang Stops Fouad Shaili; Hearn Promises US Debut This Year
In his fourth fight of the year, highly touted heavyweight prospect Leo Atang (7-0, 6 KO’s) defeated Fouad Shaili (5-5-2, 3 KO’s) by way of a terrible first round TKO stoppage. In fact, referee Kieran McCann’s absurdly fast intrusion led to Atang’s Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn kicking plenty of verbal dirt on McCann’s early halt to the bout.
Having addressed that bit of messiness, Hearn made no illusions about how he intended to move Atang. He openly stated that he would keep Leo Atang, 19, facing lower-level opposition for at least his next ten to twelve fights before thinking about really stepping it up to stiff, globally elite competition.
Although, this should not be all that disappointing. To begin, the UK born and bred fighter has yet to hit his twenties and is still awfully green as a professional. Also, Atang fought three fights in 2025 after staging the first in July. This year, in 2026, the gifted bruiser has already executed four bouts with Hearn speculating a return to action in July. This is said to say, provided Atang keeps fighting at the rate that he is, he will chew up those ten to twelve fights in no time.
Outside of speaking on the rate he plans on moving Atang, Hearn did announce that the young knuckle slinger will hop across the pond and make his US debut this year. Putting two and two together, it would not be hard to believe that Atang will make his US in his summer return.
