Rolando Romero is Once Again Free to Fight!

Love him or hate him, controversial lightweight fighter Rolando “Rolly” Romero (14-0, 12 KO’s) is back! Had things gone according to plan, Romero was all set to face regular WBA lightweight champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis (26-0, 24 KO’s) on December 5. Before they could get the event off though, the prizefight was sacked by unexpected accusations.

Suddenly Romero went from going to the biggest fight of his life to possibly to the courthouse to battle for his life. Even worse, Rolly was being accused of vile acts of sexual misconduct. Upon hearing the allegations, SHOWTIME Boxing, who was scheduled to broadcast the event, wanted nothing to do with Romero and dropped him from the card. Davis would go one to fight and defeat a very spirited Isaac Cruz.

WHAT’S IT GOING TO BE?

In the end though, Rolly plans on having that last laugh. By way of his social media, the verbose pugilist has made it public knowledge that no formal charges were ever brought against him. This is, what he believes to be, further evidence of his innocence. Yet, now that his legal woes are behind him, Rolly is fully intent on resuming his hunt for a world title.

Rolando Romero declares himself free free to fight again

Luckily for him, Romero is still ranked #1 (WBA) and remains at the front of the line for a showdown with Tank Davis. Now that Davis has made it out of his fight with Cruz with his belt, they very well could pick up where they left off and duel one another next. Although, Davis did injure his left hand in his bout with Cruz. So, even if they do fight next, there may be a wait. Regardless of how it shakes out, it will be interesting to see how Romero treats this new lease on his boxing career.
