Kell Brook bloodies and stops Mark DeLuca in seven!

As many expected him to do, former IBF welterweight champion Kell “The Special One” Brook (39-2, 27 KO’s) stopped the over-matched Marc “Bazooka” DeLuca (24-2, 13 KO’s) in the seventh round of his must win fight.

With the impressive stoppage, Brook happily snapped a 14-month stretch of inactivity. Now according to the Special One, he will begin his quest for another world title.

In the opening rounds, it was clear that Brook had to get his bearings back in regards to getting a handle on his timing and distance. Yet by about the third period, he was beginning to warm up a bit and was landing clean punches with regularity.

Unfortunately for DeLuca, he simply didn’t have the requisite tools to offer a truly competitive fight. Outside of a stabbing jab to the body, a nice left body hook and shelling up there was really not much that the American got accomplished in the ring.

The road became especially rocky for the Bazooka when Brook managed to floor him with a crunching series of punches in the third round. The sequence began with two straight rights, followed by a thudding left hook and finally a left upper cut that delivered the Boston native to the canvas.

The game former Marine got back to his feet saddled with a heavily bleeding nose.

Despite his success in the third round, the Special One fought a slower fourth and fifth period only to belt, batter and beat DeLuca all along the ropes all throughout the sixth. It was apparent that the end was near.

Not long after the seventh round began, the former champion seriously wobbled his prey with a hard right hook to the head. Moments later the Special One flattened his outgunned foe with a straight left hook to the mouth.

Although he technically beat the count DeLuca was in no condition to continue and the bout was appropriately stopped.

In the post fight interview, Brook made it clear his intentions for 2020 his to become a two-time belt holder. Whether this would take place at junior middleweight (where he is currently campaigning) or back at welterweight since he recently called for a rematch with IBF champion Errol Spence Jr remains to be seen!
