Richardson Hitchins Convinced He Beats Devin Haney At Any Weight
Without a fight locked down, the highly touted prospect Richardson Hitchins (16-0, 7 KO’s) turned his vitriol toward undisputed lightweight champion Devin “The Dream” Haney (29-0, 15 KO’s). Apparently, Hitchins is unimpressed with the accomplishments of the young champion and boxing promoter and he wanted to let him have a piece of his mind!
Hitchins was last in the ring this past February 4, when he defeated John Bauza by way of unanimous decision. If given his way, he would have preferred to go head-to-head with Montana Love, but was unable to secure that prizefight. Clearly wanting to stay active, the Brooklyn native decided to talk a little smack about Devin Haney.
SETTING THE STAGE?
While a dust-up between the amateur standout and The Dream would no doubt make for a great showdown, it’s very unlikely to happen any time soon. At the present moment, Team Haney has repeatedly said publicly that they expect to announce a fight with two-division champion Vasiliy Lomachenko any day now. This is a fight that Devin Haney has pursued since before he held any title in the division. Not only does Haney already seem to have his hands full at the moment, as he pointed out, he and Hitchins do not even reside in the same division.
Yet, for those who find Hitchins versus Haney to be a tantalizing duel, all is not lost. It’s common knowledge among boxing enthusiasts that Haney does not like making the 135-pound weight limit and will move up to super lightweight in the next fight or two. With that being the case, it is not out of the realm of believability to see Haney at 140 before the end of 2023 or the very beginning of 2024. If so, there is a reasonable chance that we could see this budding rivalry resolve itself in the ring. Yet, no matter how the cards fall, 3Kings Boxing will be here to report the news.
